There are many studies out regarding the mind-developing benefits of musical study. I am not a scientist, nor have a read every article available regarding brain development. This article is about the musician's consciousness and their ability to develop command of their mind and the ability to consciously integrate the many layers of complexity involved in the playing and study of music.
It is purely academic to study the brain without discussing consciousness. Musicians benefit as the expansion of their consciousness and self awareness strengthens their energetic core, arms, and breath; as well strengthening every muscle in every part of their hand. Conscious of self during the activity of playing, composing, or absorbing and experiencing sound expands to include a kinesthetic awareness of proximity both inside and outside the body.
In the coming articles I will discuss my experience of learning about how to manage my own command center and my observations of the development of my student's and their command centers. Please check back for this series. Articles will post regularly for each topic, and this will be first topic of the next series due to be released this Fall.
