Element

Originally composed in 2009, originally 12 minutes long, my co-pilot at the time, "Buddy" had opinions about what should be recorded and what should not. Element was only recorded once, and the first two and a half minutes were captured before Buddy decided to sit on the mac's keyboard and off went the mics.

I recall just saying out loud, "Some things are just not meant to be recorded", and decided I would never do a retake of any part of the piece. In the time since, I have enjoyed the 2.5 minute "intro". It captures the element of the piece, just not the body of it. It has taken on a life of it's own, an echo from the past. For me, the memory is all I need and this piece makes me smile every time I hear it.
